Welcome to Our Study

Wow! Yesterday on Earth Day we got interviewed by WAER 88.3, a local radio station based in Syracuse as we were hosting one of our soundwalks. Apparently, they heard about our event and thought it would be really neat to write about, so Scott Willis of WAER 88.3 decided to join us for the walk and interviewed Jordan and Alex afterwards. You can read what we wrote about us by clicking the orange link below!

The survey is now closed. We will be taking time now to process the results and summarize them for all of you. We'll let you know when they've been posted. Some of the results may be surprising.

After much extended effort at trying to upload a link for our short soundscape dissociation quiz, we finally figured out how to make it work! In this quiz, you will see pictures taken in and around the ESF campus. It is your job to match the picture to the corresponding audio file being played in the background. It is highly recommended that you use headphones while taking this quiz, because some of the recorded sounds are muted compared to the sound of wind. This quiz requires Adobe Flash player to take. Also, we apologize for the download time. It may take a few minutes.
We created this short quiz to assess how people associate (or are unable to associate) the sounds of a place to the visual surroundings of a place. Each photo has a clue that should help guide you to picking the right answer. If these photos didn't have clues, would you be able to determine which sounds were found at each place?

We are still trying to obtain at least 100 responses for the survey. Among those who have participated, there are about 10 people who have not completed what they have started. If this is you, go finish! We will have to omit you if you do not complete the survey. Remember to spread the word. The deadline by which we will not accept any more submissions is by the end of this Friday, April 3rd.

Something to think about - A view into the sound of a developing nation
It is not being contested that the population of humans on the planet is rising exponentially while the Earth remains finite in space. Human overpopulation is a major concern today and especially looking into the future. As the globalized world will continue to actively promote the development of all of the world's countries to meet the need to take care of even more humans, there may soon be a time when anthrophony (human-generated sounds) is all that most people ever hear.
India is forecast to become more populous than China in the near future. At the same time, the nation is also trying to become fully developed. But at what cost? Shown in videos below are the sounds of the historical city of Amritsar. Listen very closely. What do you not hear? Where do you think happened to the origins of these missing sounds? Is the future of soundscapes being held in store for us one giant car horn? Don't we all deserve better?
